    Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Library and Information Management

    2026-2027 Academic Year

    There is a need to open a Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Management course to provide effective services for readers and researchers. The Diploma course is intended for those who want to study and establish a Buddhist library and library staff of the Buddhist universities, colleges, and monasteries so that they are able to perform quality library work. 

    The aims and objectives of the Diploma in Library and Information Management course are to: 

    1. • Cherish and convey Buddhist literature
    2. • Establish systematic libraries in Buddhist institutions
    3. • Develop the library collections
    4. • Provide effective library services
    5. • Preserve the valuable literary heritage 

    As part of our commitment to academic excellence, the library is an important component of SSBU, supporting the university’s teaching, learning, and research activities. The SSBU library currently houses over 60,000 academic books collected from Europe, the Americas, and Asia, covering a diverse range of study areas. In the future, we hope to make the SSBU library the most frequently consulted Buddhist library, featuring books and resources in various languages.

    The PGDip in Library and Information Management subjects are based on the SSBU Library, which houses the most wide-ranging reference sources for the students in lectures and for practical exercises of the course.  

    The SSBU’s PGDip in Library and Information Management programme offers a range of subjects, including Library Management, Cataloguing, Classification, and other Information Processing and Retrieval Skills.

    Assessments

    Methods of assessment vary across courses, depending on the course lecturers. They typically involve a summary assignment, regular coursework, essays, an experience report, a written examination, and individual and group presentations. For most courses, students are assessed through one to three of the preceding methods. 

    Eligibility of Applicants 

    1. • Applicants must complete a Bachelor’s Degree, Dhammācariya, or equivalent. 
    2. • Applicants must have a good command of Myanmar and English. A minimum IELTS score of 5.0 with each skill not less than 4.5; or TOEFL scores of 180 (computer-based), 510 (paper-based), 64 (internet-based). If you don't have IELTS or TOEFL scores, we will organize an In-House English Proficiency Test at the entrance exam, and you must achieve the required scores in our Test. 
    3. • No prior knowledge of library and information management is required. 

    Documents Required for Applications: 

    1. • Completed application form with a 1-inch photograph attached. 
    2. • A Personal Statement (1000 words) which clearly explains why you wish to take our programme, and outlines your relevant background experiences. 
    3. • Bachelor’s Degree or Dhammācariya Certificate or equivalent. 
    4. • Academic Transcript of academic programmes attended.
    5. • IELTS or TOEFL English Language certificate, if available. 
    6. • Recommendation Letter from the Head of the Institution or Abbot of the current residing monastery. 
    7. • Medical Certificate confirming a physical examination in a hospital in the applicant’s home country. 
    8. • Photocopy of passport (Foreigner Applicants) or ID Card (Local Applicants) 

    Application Procedure and Periods: 

    1. • Application Deadline is February 1, 2026 (Sunday). 
    2. • Entrance Examination Period is in March 2026. The entrance exam will consist of two components: Pāli and general knowledge of Buddhism, and will last 2 hours. 
    3. • Start of programme: May 2026
    4. • Length of programme: 1 calendar year
    5. • Total credits required: 120
    6. • Mode of attendance: Full-time 
    7. • Mode of learning: On-campus 
    8. • Fees: Free

    Fees, Accommodation & Living

    The University will cover all Tuition fees, Accommodation, and Food. But the students are expected to pay for:
