‎Visit of the Chancellor of Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University

On 25 April 2026, Shan State Buddhist University (SSBU) welcomed the visit of Ven. Dr. Dhammapiya, Chancellor and Chairman of the Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University (DDIBU) in Tripura, India.

This visit represents a meaningful step in strengthening academic collaboration and fostering dialogue between Buddhist institutions across South and Southeast Asia.

During his visit, Ven. Dr. Dhammapiya engaged in discussions on institutional development with Ven. Dr. Pannyabhoga, Dean of SSBU, in the presence of faculty member Dr. Kyaw Minn Htin. These exchanges focused on shared educational initiatives and reflected a mutual commitment to advancing the study of Buddhism through cooperative academic frameworks. The dialogue highlighted the importance of building sustainable partnerships that support both scholarly research and monastic education.

As part of his visit, Ven. Dr. Dhammapiya toured the SSBU Library, where he explored its growing manuscript and textual collections. He also visited the university’s recently established India Corner, an initiative that reflects SSBU’s engagement with Indian Buddhist heritage. Given his background as an Indian scholar, these visits underscored a meaningful connection between his academic roots and the university’s expanding resources.

A significant aspect of the visit was his interaction with students. Ven. Dr. Dhammapiya met with a diverse group of international and local students, including those from India, Nepal, and the Arakanese community, offering encouragement and guidance in their academic and spiritual development.

This visit holds particular historical resonance, as Ven. Dr. Dhammapiya, an Indian national of Arakanese origin, embodies longstanding cultural and religious links across the region. His presence at SSBU affirms the enduring connections that unite Buddhist communities and institutions.
